Cataracts are the world’s leading cause of blindness and they do not go away on their own. Eye surgery is the only treatment for cataracts. Our eye doctors would like to look at the early signs of cataracts. If you are experiencing the following symptoms, it is time to schedule a consultation at Eye Group in Madison, MS.
The blurriness of vision starts mildly but eventually becomes overpowering. Blurry vision may be difficult to detect in people with myopia or nearsightedness since they are used to blurry vision. This is why it’s best to get an eye exam every year, to check for cataracts that can make myopia worse.
Does everything you see appear to be in a haze or covered in a fine film? This could be due to cataracts.
If you are having more problems driving at night, particularly being blinded by the lights of other vehicles, you need to have your eyes tested for cataracts.
Do lights appear to be extra wide or do halos surround them? This could either be a sign of migraines or cataracts. Some people can get more headaches with cataracts, so be sure to go to either your doctor or eye doctor to determine the cause of both the halos and headaches.
If everything seems faded or tinged with yellow, this could be due to cataracts.
If you get double vision often, try shutting one eye. If it’s clear while the other is blurred, then you have a cataract in the eye with double vision.
Our eye doctors will have you read letters or numbers off of a wall chart. You then get drops in your eyes so the pupils dilate. This makes your retinas easier to see. When you go to an ophthalmology clinic to get tested, bring a pair of sunglasses, because the eye drops may cause you to become sensitive to light. If you have cataracts, the eye doctor will discuss your surgical options.
